Abstract

This article explores the Islamic concept of qona’ah as a psychospiritual approach with significant potential to enhance individual mental well-being. Qona’ah, which refers to accepting divine decree with contentment and gratitude, encompasses not only theological dimensions but also therapeutic values that align with key principles in contemporary positive psychology. Utilizing an interdisciplinary literature review method, this study examines how qona’ah integrates with psychological mechanisms such as emotional regulation, cognitive restructuring, and meaning-making all of which contribute to reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting life satisfaction and psychological resilience. The findings reveal that qona’ah fosters a resilient mindset toward life’s pressures by enabling individuals to view reality through a transcendent lens, balancing worldly effort with spiritual acceptance. It supports the construction of meaning in the face of suffering and crisis, a process aligned with meaning-based coping and existential healing frameworks in psychology. The article also presents a thematic diagram outlining how qona’ah functions conceptually and can be translated into a practical and scientific Islamic therapeutic model. This study highlights the importance of developing value-based Islamic psychotherapy models that are contextually relevant to the needs of contemporary Muslim communities. It offers a foundational contribution to the discourse on Islamic psychology by positioning qona’ah as a bridge between spirituality and modern psychological science. In doing so, qona’ah emerges not only as a moral-ethical principle but also as a scientifically grounded foundation for holistic and sustainable mental health care.
